The CrossFit® Games season kicks off with the Open, a three-week, worldwide competition marking the first step for athletes aiming for the Games. But it’s not just for the elite; the Open is an inclusive event that welcomes participants of all fitness levels. It’s an opportunity for the entire community to engage in the season, challenging themselves and celebrating fitness milestones together.

At Urban Athletic Club, while we’re not an official CrossFit affiliate, we share the enthusiasm and spirit of the Open. It embodies our ethos of challenge, growth, and community. This year, we’re excited to participate in the Open to our members.

The UAC Twist: Team Competition and Heats

This year, UAC introduces a team-based approach to the Open. Participants will be divided into teams, fostering a sense of unity, spirit, and collective achievement.

What is a Heat?
A heat in a fitness competition is a group of athletes performing the workout in a specific time slot. This allows for organized participation, with each athlete warming up and then working at their appropriate level. It ensures that everyone gets their moment on the floor, with ample space and time to give their best.

Workout Schedule:

  • Fridays from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with Coach DaShawn
  • Sundays from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM with Coach Andrea

Each session will be structured to accommodate all participants, with heats organized to optimize flow and participation.

The Open Workouts

The CrossFit Open workouts will be released on Thursdays at 3 p.m. on the CrossFit Games website, with participants having until the following Monday at 5 p.m. PT to complete the workout and submit their scores online. This global leaderboard offers a fun way to see how you stack up within the affiliate, by age group, or worldwide.

It’s a time to set personal records, achieve “firsts” in your fitness journey, and gather interesting data to guide your goals for the year ahead. UAC’s adaptation of the Open workouts, using the Level Method, ensures that everyone, from beginners to advanced athletes, can participate in a way that’s challenging, rewarding, and fun. We’ll post the scaled workouts in this blog post, making it easy for everyone to find their appropriate challenge level.
