September Programming

September Programming: Grounded Strength, Elevated Skill

September Programming at Urban Athletic Club is all about building grounded strength through Powerlifting, muscular endurance with Plumbing-style conditioning, and technical skill with Kettlebells and Snatches. Front Squats lead the month’s progression, while HYROX and CrossFit-inspired workouts keep the energy high and varied. With a focus on Stability and Assessments in Week 4, it's the perfect time to show up consistently and level up your fitness.

Following a powerful August of Overhead Work—Snatch Balances, Overhead Squats, and deep Barbell Positions—September focuses on applying that mobility, control, and awareness to build grounded, foundational strength—this month’s emphasis shifts to Powerlifting, precision in movement, and cultivating absolute strength with intention. Through the Level Method’s LIT (Levels, Intent, Themes) framework, we’re layering in strength, Stability, and skills that will prepare you not just for Assessments—but for real-world performance. September Programming is FIRE!

Here’s what you can expect across the month:

Electricity Discipline

  • Our primary strength focus is Powerlifting—and that means Bench Presses, Deadlifts, and Squats, programmed for progression and mastery. You’ll work through Snatch Grip Deadlifts, Bench Presses, and weekly Front Squats (our main progression). All lifts are based on percentages, ensuring every athlete can train smart and build consistently from their Level Method rank.

Energy System

  • We’re switching to the Plumbing system—targeting muscular endurance. These sessions will challenge your ability to sustain output under fatigue, with workouts that pair Pulls, Squats, Carries, and Midline Work. Expect steady grinders that build both stamina and resilience.

Progression

  • The Front Squat is our key Progression for the month. After weeks of Overhead Squats and Snatch Balances in August, your Upper Back and Core are ready to support heavier loads. We’ll build through tempo and volume, developing clean squat mechanics and setting you up for a strong Assessment in Week 4.

Virtuosity

  • This month’s focus is on Kettlebells. You’ll be refining your technique in Kettlebell Swings, Turkish Get-Ups, Kettlebell Snatches, and Complexes. These movements build coordination, Stability, and powerful hip drive—all foundational for strength and athleticism.

Fun Theme

  • Our workouts draw inspiration from both CrossFit Benchmarks and HYROX Events. You’ll hit familiar names with a twist, blend strength with conditioning, and explore race-style circuits that build grit and push thresholds. HYROX Sundays continue to bring that high-energy, high-output vibe.

Quality

  • The theme is Stability—both static and dynamic. You’ll see Isometric Holds, Tempo Bulgarian Split Squats, Paused Reps, and Midline Movements throughout warm-ups and accessory blocks. Expect to feel grounded, braced, and more in control under load.

Assessments

  • Week 4 wraps up with Assessments in Front Squat, Flexibility, and Kettlebell Proficiency. These tests give us measurable progress while supporting your individual path in the Level Method system. Show up, log your scores, and track your growth.

And don’t forget: Thursday Strength Doubles bring the heat.

  • Weeks 1 & 3: Pull-Ups, Rope Climbs, and Ring Strength
  • Weeks 2 & 4: Chin-upsk Rope Climbs and Heavy Step-Ups

Throughout the month, you’ll also work on technical progressions in:

  • Barbell Snatch
  • Kettlebell Snatch
  • Dumbbell Snatch

Show Up. Build Strength. Stay Consistent.

We recommend training 3–4 days a week—whether that’s three days in the gym and one day outdoors, or a consistent mix that fits your schedule. Every session is structured with intent and backed by the LIT programming system, so you always know why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Urban Athletic Club’s mission is to impact 5,000 Washingtonians through fitness, nutrition, and total wellness. Join us this month to train with purpose, progress with clarity, and perform with confidence.
