August Programming at Urban Athletic Club is all about building powerful, technical lifts through our weightlifting-focused programming, paired with ventilation-based conditioning to enhance cardio-respiratory fitness. Through benchmark workouts, barbell virtuosity, and coordinated skill work, you'll progress from hang cleans to squat cleans and prepare for assessments in week four. It’s a month designed for structured gains, measurable results, and serious barbell fun.
This August, we’re diving deep into the art and science of lifting. Whether you’re cleaning up your Clean or working on your Snatch, this month is about building strength with strategy and intention. Through the Level Method LIT methodology—Levels, Intent, and Themes—you’ll experience programming designed to elevate your training within a smart, structured framework. Here’s how we’re breaking it down:
- Electricity Discipline
Our primary focus this month is Weightlifting. Specifically, you’ll be honing your clean technique, exploring overhead squat and snatch positions, and progressing from hang power cleans to squat cleans over four weeks. This cycle is about refining skill through incremental challenges—small ranges of motion, detailed movement prep, and thoughtful loading. - Energy System
Say goodbye to the deep muscle fatigue of July’s plumbing system. In August, we’re shifting to Ventilation—emphasizing cardio-respiratory fitness. Expect workouts that push your breathing engine without crushing your muscles. This complements our lifting days beautifully, offering recovery and conditioning in equal measure. - Progression
All roads this month lead through Weightlifting Progressions. Each week builds on the last, starting with foundational positions and finishing with more technical full lifts. This structure allows you to develop consistency and capacity under the bar, aligned with your current Level Method rating. - Virtuosity
Our focus on the Barbell means you’ll revisit classics like front squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, and the ever-humbling bench press. Each lift will show up in variations that reinforce quality, not just quantity—perfect for mastering mechanics and unlocking strength with efficiency. - Fun Theme
Benchmark season is here. Throughout August, you’ll see familiar names pop up—those notorious workouts that measure where you stand and show how far you’ve come. They’re gritty, gratifying, and always a great time with the crew. - Quality
Coordination takes center stage in our warm-ups and accessory work. From footwork drills to rhythm-based challenges, we’re layering in skill to support complex lifts and help you move better across all planes. - Assessments
In week 4, we assess Weightlifting, Running, and Aerobic Power Intervals. This is where your work over the month pays off. It’s not just about PRs—it’s about confidence, control, and measurable progress through the Level Method framework.
And don’t forget: Thursday Doubles are still in play. Week 1 and 3 will target Overhead Squats and Pull-ups; Week 2 and 4 hit Snatch balance and Parallel Ring Rows. These sessions are your edge—high skill, high payoff.
